The weird thing is, I mourn the Wicked

So, Christine, Emily, Emily, Travis and I went to see Wicked last night (yes I meant to put Emily twice).

I had seen it before, so obviously I wasn't as excited as Christine, Travis and 1st Emily were because they hadn't seen it before. 2nd Emily and I had seen it. Christine called it a "religious experience" and cried for a good five minutes after the production, Travis thought it was OK and 1st Emily thought it was long. Second Emily and I enjoyed it and had our reservations/complaints, as with any multiple viewing of a production.

But either way, the traveling company was pretty strong. I was bothered slightly by the girl who played Elphaba, as some of the songs were actually raised about a whole note to accommodate her range (which is pretty impressive actually because that song has a high belt range already). and I hate to say this, but Elphaba was kinda chubby. I know, I'm terrible. Glinda was pretty strong operatically (yeah, I just made up that word to mimic her ability to sing opera), though she had NO lower range. Fiyero I think was sick as he kept clearing his voice but still was pretty good. Though I'm pretty sure he's gay in real life, so that made the play difficult to believe. The weakest HAD to be the wizard, as he wasn't that great of a singer and seemed to be too overweight for me to believe he reached Oz in a balloon.

However, the chorus was really strong and the supporting characters (like Nessa and Boq) were pretty awesome. Nessa had an awesome voice and I was glad to hear her sing. And I felt every singer's interpretation of the songs was nice, actually.

Now for a Wicked poster rant:

Why would you put "A New Musical" on your musical poster? First off, if you are familiar enough with Broadway, one knows when there's a new musical. Also, what happens in a few years, when this musical isn't new anymore? I mean, for gosh sakes, it's already been out for six years. So, I think, technically, this isn't a new musical at all. It's newer than, let's say, Chorus Line, but younger than In The Heights.

Overall, I give this performance of Wicked a B-. Entertaining, but I didn't cry and the Wizard needs to go on Nutrisystem.

I've noticed that radio stations do that "new" thing too. Seriously, they say they're new for like 3 years. It's ridiculous.
