Working on the weekend

So, I was on call this weekend. Well, little did I know when I signed up for this weekend how awesome Gustav would be. With Austin being a main evacuation site, I did not get a weekend. But, that's ok because I'm getting holiday pay as I work Labor Day. So, yay extra money.

I got a new phone, which is pretty awesome. I hate being one of those people with Blackberry's, but I actually need it for work. I think it's pretty. It's really crazy to be able to access the Internet anywhere. Craziness. My favorite thing is I'm really anal with my email inbox. So, this way, I can constantly maintain it. So happy.

As if my phone isn't awesome enough, I wanted to explain why I'm at work today. I find out we're going to live stream Bush this morning on the website (something I need to be in the office for). So, in theory, this will only take an hour. Well, Bush flies into Austin, drives in an over-zealous motorcade to the EOC. When his conference was scheduled for 11, he showed up, finally at 11:45. He waltzes in, takes pictures with people, shakes hands, high fives a couple military people. Then, once he's made his rounds, he goes up to the podium. A reporter is called on and asks "Do you think New Orleans was prepared for Gustav?" He said, "I'm not going to comment on Gustav" and exits the room. Kid you not. So, here I am, with a live stream of Bush shaking hands a leaving. Compelling video. I was very angry. I considered many un-American things.

But, it was all worth it. Palin's daughter being pregnant (again?) is really intriguing. I mean, I'm glad they finally came out and admitted it. Eventually things would be obvious. I really hope this guy she's marrying is actually the baby daddy. Otherwise, family reunions are going to be awkward. Honestly, I feel terribly sorry for Bristol. 1) because her name is Bristol and that sounds like a horse. 2) because going through this in the public eye has got to be incredibly difficult. 3) She had no choice. With her mom being pro-life, it must suck that she didn't even get to think about it at all. 4) I really hope she actually likes this guy she's marrying. I hope they aren't just marrying eachother to make the situation look better. I mean, everyone makes mistakes. A lot of people do. I guess I just hope they aren't marrying to make Palin's campaign more solid. The whole thing is a big huge mess. But, honestly, the worst part is that everyone knows about her pregnancy and probably will know it more than Jaime Lynn Spears by the end of it. What a mess.

i think the No. 3 point is a little presumptuous.

Oh, absolutely. But, wouldn't it just complete the ridiculousness that is this story?!?

I was going to make the same comment as Danny, so I won't be repetitive. I'm sorry you had to be at work for nothing. That sucks.

Presumptuous or logical? Both, I think. There's no way in hell that Bristol could get an abortion with her mother, the governor of the state, being anti-choice. Plus, abortion laws in Alaska are super-restrictive. Women under the age of 17 have to have one parent consent to the abortion, no exceptions, not even for rape or incest. WTF. Oh, you can appeal to a judge, though, but the problem with that is that it might take too long and by the time you actually get a hearing it may be too late in the preganancy to abort. I don't know how old Bristol was when she got pregnant, so this might not apply to her, but if she was 16 when she got pregnant, with her mother, she basically had zero choice. Sucks so hard.
