I don't get it...

Breaking News from The Hill:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Wednesday he is suspending his campaign, and he is asking Democratic rival Barack Obama to join him in trying to postpone Friday night's debate so that both candidates and both parties can focus on a solution to the Wall Street crisis.

So, let me get this straight...
Can you postpone your State of the Union address if the American's stocks are doing poorly? No. You cannot. In fact, everyone would watch the State of the Union to see what the heck you plan to do to fix it. I don't get it. I mean, I would understand if McCain wanted to change the subject of this weekend's debate from the war to the economy. I mean, you could just switch them. But, just delaying it makes no sense. They should be just as aware of the economic issue right now that they are on Friday or two Friday's from now. They should be prepared no matter what. That's what being President is about. Being prepared. It's like the ultimate Boy Scout. Haha.

No really, am I missing something here? What can Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama do right now instead of debate eachother that can make a difference in the economy?

But Issenberg quoted McCain as telling reporters on December 17 in New Hampshire: "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should," McCain said. "I've got Greenspan's book."

I guess if it wasn't my area of expertise I would read books too before having to speak on it.

I am a little mystified by everything that has been said between the two over the last 24 hours, and you're right, they should change the subject of the debate at least. But I do think that they would both be valuable in being there to help make a decision on what to do about this. If they aren't then neither of them can claim anything about their opinions later on because they weren't there to vote. It won't count. I do think it is interesting that as bipartisan as this deal is proposing to be, the reactions from McCain and Obama have been nothing but partisan really. And the reactions from republicans and democrats have been that way as well. I understand that an election is going on and that both candidates will do anything that they can to make the other look like he can't run a country, but democrats say that McCain is an idiot and republicans say that Obama is an idiot. Nothing has changed.

Yeah, what's more confusing is there are just as many Republicans that think this bailout plan is bogus as Democrats. I mean, Republicans are never into giving golden umbrellas to companies that screwed up.

I just think a presidential candidate should be able to focus on more than one thing at a time! I mean, you're telling me you just noticed a financial crisis? I mean, come on. We've technically been in a recession for the last 6 months. It just takes different people to realize it.

This bailout is so ridiculous anyway. The company screwed up. I mean, so when my dad's company screws up, do they get help from the government? No, they get smacked on the bum and people say "try better next time." There's no punishment for bad business models if you keep getting them out of trouble. Bad bank loans = bad business practices. It's pretty simple.
