Some people are assholes

So, one of our reporters did this story about a man who is falling through the cracks between Medicaid and Medicare. For those who don't know, Medicaid is unavailable to people over the age of 62. Medicare is only available to those over the age of 65. Usually, for those three years, you get Social Security benefits. However, this guy takes so many medications for his recent surgery and his Diabetes, that the Social Security money is not enough. It needs to go toward his rent and groceries and such.

After this story airs, this woman writes in saying:
God knows that there is a serious crisis with availability of health care - but you didn't know that if you have an income, you can't qualify for Medicaid! As for that guy, he needs to quit crying, get out of that chair, get out of the KITCHEN, and get exercise. He can start by WALKING to the city health clinics and applying for his MAP card, like everyone else in this city with any income. Or if he is not in Austin, the Peoples Community Clinic. PAHLEEEZE! Now to change the channel. No actual news out of here tonight! Whatever you said since that story, I didn't hear it, I'm so riled.

Obviously, this woman has never been screwed by the system. Obviously, this woman has no one in her family that suffers from any sort of disease. The man has diabetes, hence why he's overweight. Plus, this woman goes out and judge's this guy without even know his circumstances. It's crazy. I mean, why doesn't this lady let us know this fact about a MAP card in a nice way, like "Please tell that man struggling with Medicaid that he can go apply for a MAP card. Here's the Web site: ____."

What a bitch. Reason number 456 we need universal healthcare in this country.

I agree with you that she was really mean. She could have been much nicer about her opinion. And you're right, this man sounds like he needs some help. I think she was probably upset because she feels that there are many people out there who can help themselves but choose not to. I don't think that is probably the case for this man, and yes, she needs to change her attitude.

Yeah, I mean, granted, there are people that could help themselves. Like, people that are 400 pounds for no medical reason except that they are lazy. I feel sorry for them, though, because laziness can be one of the worst diseases ever
