And the winner is...?

So, obviously, the big news currently is Obama picking Biden. I'm pretty excited about an article I got to write for KXAN about it. I had to write a summary of the 8 candidates that Obama was considering for the job. That way, when the news was announced, we could have something up on the website instantaneously. It was awesome. Just doing all that research about the short list was interesting. Things I learned about the candidates:

1. Biden has mucho amounts of foreign policy experience. If this Russia/Georgia thing keeps going, he's going to be a great mind to go to. He actually was selected by a bi-partisan committee to dodge over there when things got heated to figure out the situation. Pretty impressive. He also has a wonderful voting record. Though, my favorite moment of Biden has to be his quote about Guiliani's campaign saying "There's only three things he mentions in a sentence: a noun, and a verb and 9/11." Hilarious true...

2. Clinton, I'm 90% sure, does not get along with Obama. However, I feel like she would make a wonderful Secretary of Education since her ideas on giving tax breaks to families who send their children to college are logical and should affect anyone who wants to send their child to college. Also, I think their relationship would look way too forced on the campaign trail. I mean, some people have forgotten already Biden's statement about how he thought Obama wasn't experienced enough. But, I don't think anyone's forgotten the 3 a.m. call yet.

3. Kaine was an interesting character and, honestly, who I thought Obama would choose. He's a bit of an odd one and honestly, I don't think anyone could forget his awful rebuttal speech for the State of the Union where all he did was say "There's a better way" about 1,000 times. Not to mention saying "the Commonwealth of Virginia" until I didn't respect the state anymore. Though, looking back, he was clairvoyant on some things. He was a Roman Catholic missionary in Honduras, which I think is very interesting and incredible.

4. Evan Bayh, everybody's favorite to get the nudge into VP, is really intriguing. He has quite the voting record for a Dem. He voted for the Patriot Act in 2006, but was very vocal about his lack of confidence in Rumsfeld (well, join the club on that one!) He also voted to allow clinics to notify minors' parents if they had an abortion across state lines. I certainly have no particular issue with this law, however, if the child was sneaking off to conceal her abortion, then maybe that's why she didn't tell her parents in the first place. I mean, for all I know, they beat her. And, supposedly, this law was responding to a child (I think she was 16) who had an abortion, he parents found out and they literally abandoned her. I mean, what happened to unconditional love, parents?! Hmm, tangent. Sorry.

5. Chet Edwards of Texas had the most interesting voting record of them all, though. He's considered a very powerful Texas Democrat. Though, his stance on gay marriage might have been a detriment to Obama's campaign. I also thought that anyone with the name Edwards in the Democratic party, probably shouldn't be running for public office any time soon. Sorry John, and to think you were who I really liked...

Man, I looked until page 12 on google images to find a freakin "ok" picture of Hil. It's amazing how many blogs were out there slamming her.
As for you, modo, it's a freakin' state. No one says "the Republic of Texas" when they talk to rebut a speech because we're a freakin state. I hate how Virginia thinks it's so cool. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's gorgeous. But, Texas is awesome.

Thanks for the political lesson. When Obama announced Biden, I kept wanting to make a Facebook status that said, "I'm done Biden my time until Obama announces his veep," but I forgot to. PUN!
