Winter wonderland

Today was our first real snow in Albuquerque. They got some, allegedly, over Thanksgiving weekend, but David and I were in Austin, so we didn't get to see it. All the sudden, we were devastated in Austin -- thinking we weren't going to be able to see snow in our own hometown. I mean, how ironic. We moved to a place with snow-potential in a La Nina year. What were we thinking?!?

Suddenly, on Monday, our KRQE meteorologist said that we would be getting snow in the NE section of the state. But, probably none in the metro-area. I was so saddened.

Then, on Tuesday, he reread the model. "I'm thinking the snow storm, if we're lucky, might shift to at least the East Mountains" (this is referring to the eastside of Albuquerque). Snow-capped mountains, I thought to myself? I'm all about it.

Wednesday afternoon, I talked to our meteorologist again. And he said, "Yeah, I'm going up to Taos tomorrow. If these models continue the way they are now, it's going to be a doozy.

I woke up this morning to rain, rain and more rain. It was so depressing. I'm not the kind of person who could live in the Pacific Northwest. I love the sun too much. It's always sunny here, and I love that. However, it was time for some winter weather according to me. Then, around noon, David texted me "It's SNOWING!!" I could tell the misplaced Texan was WAY too excited. Mind you, David has barely seen flakes fall before, so I figured that he was exaggerating. However, I was wrong. I told him to take photos and send them to me. I couldn't believe my eyes. There had to be at least an inch of snow in our front yard. It was gorgeous.

As I drove home, it was raining the whole time home. All I could think of was, "Great. I missed it. I missed the snow. The rain has washed away all remnants of the wintery wonder. Boy. Was. I. Wrong.

s if God found out that I needed a pick-me-up, as soon as I turned into my neighborhood, the raindrops turned into big, white, fluffy, fat snowflakes. It was beautiful. Now, I've lived in Boston. I've seen snow. But, it's been a few years. And it turns out, I've missed it.

David and I, of course, took great advantage of the three inches of snow that had accumulated in our backyard. We had a blast. So, enjoy our winter wonderful antics:
