Parenting must be hard, cause so many people suck at it

So, yesterday, I watched a mother give her 3-year-old child Dr Pepper. In her sippy cup.

OK, let's address this slowly. W.T.F. Mom? We need some research right now. Drinking a 20-oz soda is like giving your child 17 teaspoons of sugar. We all know child obesity is on the rise. Geee, I wonder why?

Did you know for a child, if you give them soda, it would take 4.5 hours of biking a day to burn off ONE SODA. One.

Statistically, kids who drink soda drink way less milk. Guess what milk does people? It builds bones. You'll need those for a while, in case you've forgotten.

OK, let's part from the whole fat-possibility. Let's move to those beautiful pearly whites your child should have in their mouth.

The acids in soda break down the enamel on teeth. Yes, their teeth fall out, but studies have shown that drinking soda also hurts their gums and the basis for their permanent teeth. So, yeah, those little teeth will fall out, but you are setting them up for cavities in the future. Are there people who will not get cavities even though they drank soda as kids? Hell yeah. But if you do a little research, you'll see that people's saliva has different levels of natural fluoride, leading to less cavities.

Not to mention the caffeine. Caffeine can cause jitteriness, increase in heart rate, sleeplessness, head ache, mood swings, upset stomach, concentration issues, and rise of blood pressure, which is just exacerbated in children, since they are so much smaller.

The solution? Flavored, sugarless water. Crystal Light makes it and if you, as a parent, make it cool, the kids will want it.

I heard this argument this one time, "Well, all my son's friends get soda and my son complains that he doesn't get it."

This statement leads me to the second point.

What on Earth happened to parents now-a-days? What happened to the days when a kid would say that to their parents and the parents would say something to the effect "Shut the heck up, kid, I'm your parent and I will decide what you drink."

Parents rarely discipline their kids anymore. There's actually a law in New Mexico where if a kid gets spanked at home, they are supposed to tell their teacher and the teacher has to call the police.

OK, don't get me wrong. Obviously, there are parents who legitimately abuse their children. Do I think there should be spanking in schools? No. However, I think some parents need to step up and start disciplining their children.

Good call. I can't believe that lady did that! That kid needs to learn to drink some milk or water, or even some apple juice for goodness sake.

Although fruit juices can sometimes be super sugary, there are great organic versions now that only have natural sugars in them. Much healthier and easier for a child to break down. This is reason #456 I think there should be a test to have a child sometimes.
