Girls just wanna have fun

So, I'm sorry I've been negligent on my blog. I would put down an empty promise here about "posting more often," but I'm thinking with my new job duties and such things, once a week might be my max unless something awesome happens.

Now, for this past weekend. I haven't blogged much about my wedding, just because I always hated those girls on Facebook who were like "OMFG, my wedding is like 146 days away and I can't find a DJ. WTF am I going to do? LOL, wedding planning is stressful!!!" I hated those chicks.

So, I've tried, for the most part, to keep my wedding stresses either light-hearted or to myself.

So, here's an update on my "stresses" while planning a wedding.

We had a cake-mergency. I chose the place to my cheesecake wedding cake months ago. There weren't many places to choose from, obviously. Well, a week ago (a little over that, I guess), I got a call from my wedding bakery.

"I'm sorry, but we have been bought out. We will not be able to honor your contract for your wedding cake because we no longer do weddings. We would be glad to give you a refund however."

Now, I'm not a panicky person. In fact, I would say, for the most part, I'm pretty calm in crazy situations. I would say that's one of the main reasons I've stayed with journalism. However, at this point, I was in no mood.

I got the money back, hung up the phone and called my mom. I told her what the situation was and that I had a few ideas. After a couple days of research, we found some options. I called Southwest and changed my flight from Friday morning to Thursday night so I could have all Friday to taste-test. My mom arranged a substitute teacher so she could drive down on Thursday also and meet me to taste cheesecakes.

We got to Austin last Thursday and filled ourselves with cheesecake on Friday. We found two main options, and now I just need them to out-bid each other. I also tried on my dress to get it altered and get other things done to it. I fit into it, so that was happy.

Saturday was Brandan's bachelorette party. We met at a hotel near downtown, had a lingerie shower for her and then loaded onto a party bus.

The party bus drove us to a winery in Driftwood, Texas. We wine-tasted and our wine-tasting guy was named Kyle and obviously really loved getting 10 really hot girls slightly buzzed. At the end of his tour and wine tasting, he asked if we were going to Maggie Mae's that night. Of course we were (as it's one of our favorite bars), so he mentioned that his band was playing there from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. We said if he played an 80s song, we'd be there.

That brings me to my 2nd point. We wanted 80s not only because it's awesome music, but because the night was 80s themed. There was practically a parade of neon.

Yeah, we looked good.

We went to Maggie Maes and Kyle's band was playing. We were supportive "fans."

Also, I discovered something. Obviously, I am very hott in 80s clothing. I got hit on more than I ever have while downtown in Austin. One guy came up to me and said "You have a nice EVERYTHING!" I responded cooly, "Thanks, I grew it all myself." Another guy said "Has anyone ever told you you're the finest thing this side of the Mississippi?" I responded, once again cooly, saying "Yes, actually. I hear that all the time." Both times, I pushed a single lady of our group over to them, in hopes they would get a dance partner. Haha.

All in all, a successful venture to DT. Congrats Brandan. We're all so glad you and Ian are tying the knot!
