Well, we're two days into David's surgery. He did really well.
If you remember a while back, (in March ish) David fell on his arm during a soccer game. He dislocated his elbow, which shocked me as I didn't even know you COULD dislocate an elbow.
However, he refused to go to the doctor for a while. He kept saying he was fine. Finally I convinced him to go to the doctor. His family physician said he needed a brace, so he put him in something we lovingly called the "Robo-arm."
He stayed in the Robo-arm for six weeks. He tried to follow the instructions of his doctor, however, he seemed to still be in pain and he couldn't quite function with his elbow still.
But, when he took the Robo-arm off, despite cautioning from his doctor, he did NOT go back to the doctor to get a check up. He, instead, insisted it was better.
One day, he was pushing himself off of the couch and it popped out. He screamed. I was furious because I KNEW it was still messed up. However, he continued to refuse to go to the doctor. He was scared of surgery, understandably.
A couple weeks later, he was popping his knuckles (yes, you read that right) and his elbow popped out again. I said "This is ridiculous. You need to go to the doctor." This time, he actually believed me.
He went and got an MRI. Turns out that his ligament had detached and needed to be sutured. He scheduled the surgery for early Nov. 20.
Then, on Friday, we waltzed into the hospital. It was 6 in the morning and we were exhausted already. He went into surgery at 7:30 and the doctor came out to tell his mother and me at 10:30 that everything had gone OK. Turns out the ligament wasn't just detached, it was detached in two places (or both ends). So, he had to suture both ends. It was a little more serious than he had anticipated, however it was still better than using a graft. He was able to repair it completely with David's own tissue. So, that's great.
He will be in a hard cast for four weeks and back in the Robo-arm for two more. After that, he will be rehabbing and hopefully he'll be able to carry me over the threshold in September. :)

what hurts more, David's elbow issues or being a Browns fan?
Hmmm, that's a good question, Danny. I would assume that being a Browns fan, just because David is getting medicine for his elbow right now and no amount of morphine can make you proud of those orange helmets.
