So, I was informed by a dear friend of mine and loyal blog reader today that I do not update my blog very often anymore and that makes him/her sad.
Let me explain.
Excuse #1: Turns out, I'm on social media overload. I am recently a Google+ addict. Luckily, I can't use it at work yet, so that limits me significantly in my usage, which is probably beneficial to my work ethic. I recently tied my Twitter account to my Facebook account because, as it turns out, I use them for the same thing but like using Twitter more. So, this is one way to force me to go to Twitter and actually use it. After tying them together, I have noticed I am more informed. I have a YouTube account which I often upload my FlipCam videos to, as long as people won't get mad at me for doing so.
All in all, I've got a lot of platforms for people to stalk me on.
Now, that being said...that doesn't excuse the behavior and lacking of posts as of late. I know that 140 characters of Twitter and limited amount of space on Facebook, Google+ and YouTube don't quite fully explain my life. However, this is what I've become.
Excuse #2: Turns out, when you love the city you live, you aren't sitting on the couch very much. Everyone here is skinny. Now, I'm not saying that I'm Fatty McGoo over here. Most certainly not. I've weighed about the same since I was a junior in high school (I know this from the clothes I still have...) and can easily find my jean size at regular stores. However, everyone here runs marathons, does triathlons, goes hiking, skis the slopes of the Rockies, plays tennis and golf and many other outdoor activities that I had not done in years. So, I start a schedule to work out more often after work. After work was my time to update my blog, so this has significantly limited me too.
Granted, I have had time to update the other previously mentioned social-media platforms, so it looks like I need to re-prioritize.
Excuse #3: Turns out, I'm selfish. I never got too many comments on this blog. I had started to think with the aforementioned social-media platforms, maybe Blogger had gone by the wayside. Maybe the technology that all those "experts" and "professionals" had told me was going to replace me as a journalist had now become obsolete? Or, maybe, everyone was so overloaded with my over-informative nature on these social-media networks that they had no desire to read, yet ANOTHER thing about my life.
On that note, the dear friend who has inspired this post has proved to me that at least one person cares deeply about the status of AstuteAmanda. So, excuse #3 is busted.
Excuse #4: Turns out, I've actually been busy. When people also like the state you live in, it means they come to visit you (not to mention the fact that I also sent out Change of Address postcards that practically begged people to come visit). And beyond the extracurricular visits, we've also been traveling a lot. I mean, just in the months of June/July, we've:
* watch UT squander a chase to the College World Series finals
* done a significant round of spring cleaning
* watched MY DALLAS MAVERICKS WIN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP. DIRK-A-DIRK-A-DIRK-A-DIRK.
* laughed for two days straight after Sarah Palin confused the history of Paul Revere
* had our dear friends Jason and Missy visit us and we went to see Fitz and the Tantrums (awesome live, by the by)
* Toured the Coors Brewery
* laughed for a week straight after Anthony Weiner jokes refused to get old
* Went to Dallas for our dear friends Emily and Travis' engagement party
* Visited the Happiest Place On Earth - Disney World!
* Started re-reading The Bible. Turns out it's been a while.
* Fell down my stairs and severely bruised my tailbone
* Rode my bike on Bike To Work Day
* Watched my friend get to the finals of The Voice (too bad, Nakia! I thought you rocked!)
* Stayed in a cabin in the middle of nowhere (kind of near Steamboat) with Travis, Emily and Mike
* Started golfing
* Watched Djokovic prove that a gluten-free diet can win you Wimbledon
* Visited with Danny Davis and Chastity when they came into town
* Discovered not having air conditioning in a house that was built in the 1920s is not a good idea
* Tried to be a gardener and maintain our yard
* Dealt with four different types of leaks in our house
* Hosted David's parents
* Rode a train to the top of Pike's Peak
* Watched the US Women go to the World Cup Finals!!!
* Started playing tennis again
* Bought a mountain bike (so did David, for that matter)
* Bought golf clubs
Yet, during all these things, I still managed to update those pesky social-media platforms, so I guess all of my "excuses" are moot.
Despite all of this: apologies. I will try harder to update more frequently - to those loyal readers.
