I was going to work on Christmas Day this year. I was. At first, my mom and dad were going to come to Albuquerque to have Christmas here. However, my mom found out she had to have surgery and would not be able to fly that soon after the procedure. She was crushed. She couldn't believe that she wasn't going to see "her little girl" for the holiday. I hated seeing her that upset. And, to be honest, I hated that I wouldn't be able to see them either.
Then, we hired a wonderful employee who was willing to work Christmas. I was shocked. You mean I can actually see my family for the holidays?
I went to David and told him, "Man, I wish we could afford Christmas tickets home to Dallas."
So, David (up for the challenge), started stalking the Southwest website. He found out that Southwest Airlines is obviously feeling generous and let people use their free tickets on Christmas Eve. I couldn't believe it. We could fly on Christmas Eve for FREE?!? Book. That. Now.
So we did. We coordinated with my dad and told him to not tell my mother.
Now, I must digress into the fact that I really really suck at keeping secrets from my mom. I can keep secrets from everyone else in the world, but not my mom. So, keeping this a secret for over a month was nearly impossible.
Little things kept almost screwing up. I kept almost saying "I'll see you soon" or stupid things like that. I was so paranoid.
Then, the day came. We were able to reschedule our flight for Dec. 23 instead. We flew in. We had a cluster of a time getting to my dad, but we finally found him parked outside. We drove back to my home. We pulled in slowly to the garage. David and I didn't close our car doors so she wouldn't hear us.
We tiptoed down the hallway to the bedroom. That's when we surprised my mom. Watch the video below as she cries like a baby. It's adorable. :) Best. Christmas. Surprise. Ever. (Note: Sorry it's so Blair-Witch-Project-esque. Let's just say that David's future job opportunities are not in photography... Also, mind you, my mom had had surgery only six days before this video. She looks great if you ask me.)

This entire thing is so sweet. Such a loving daughter. Beautiful.
Wow, that was beautiful. You are the best gift ever.
PS- your mom is hot even 6 days after surgery.
