Let's open up a restaurant in Santa Fe

David and I decided, randomly, to take a day trip to Santa Fe on Sunday. It was really lovely, actually.

I mean, the town is lazy, to say the least. It's pretty small and completely walkable. We left right before lunch and arrived just in time for lunch. We ate at a great New Mexican place called Blue Corn Café. We loved their soups. Then, we decided to just walk around the city and shop. I saw this shirt and could not stop laughing at the hokey-ness:

Well, we both learned something. 1. Albuquerque is 1,000 ft. lower than Santa Fe. That puts Santa Fe at 7,000 feet elevation. So, when we assumed that the weather would be the same since it’s just 45 minutes north? Well, we were wrong. It. Was. Freezing. I was wearing a skirt, flip flops and a short-sleeve shirt, which was definitely not OK. I was shaking. So, David and I decided to solve the problem, not with a tacky sweatshirt, but instead with margaritas. That solved it for a while.

After we wandered around, drank a lot, and shopped for Mother’s Day, we went to the Georgia O’Keefe Museum. It was really lovely. Quite small, but lovely. David surprised me and bought me a print of my favorite O’Keefe piece.

After that, we had dinner at one of the better Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to. It was called Il Piatto. Delicioso!

Then, we left and drove back home. There’s actually a $4 train that will take you up to Santa Fe from Albuquerque, but we started the day too late to take the train. Might be worth it, in the future, however, so we don’t have to sober up before driving home.

Overall, a lovely place, Santa Fe. It’s cheesy, expensive and tourist-trappy, yet thoroughly-enjoyable.

Believe it or not, Danny, even I have a cap-off of Mexican food. :)
