Cooking up a storm

So, I never really got to cook much as a kid. My mom and dad both really like cooking (well, my mom likes to cook, while my dad likes to make delicious food AND make a mess of the kitchen simultaneously, thus negating the relaxing moments of my mother). So, since they both loved it, my duties in the kitchen were reserved to setting the table, making everyone's salad (we ate a salad every night with dinner) and pouring everyone's drinks.

In turn, my cooking skills are slowly developing. I started late, but I'm trying. We registered for lots of cookbooks so we could really experiment (OK, more like I could experiment). So, we've taken to going to the grocery store on Saturday or Sunday and getting everything we need for the week. I'm not one, obviously, that can just look in our pantry and make up something. I like to plan things. So, Haley, a marvelous friend of mine from work, bought us this cool little notepad that goes on your fridge. There's room to plan "dine in" "dine out" or "take out." We've just started using it and I already love it:

Anywho, when do you go grocery shopping? What's your favorite easy thing to cook?

I make a weekly dinner list and go shopping once a week for the things I'll need. And you know if you registered for cookbooks that I will be buying a crapload of them for you. Because that's what I would want. :)

That notepad is a fantabulous idea. I want one!

My favorite easy thing to make is spicy bean burritos. You get a can of black beans, one of pinto beans, and one of hominy, drain the hominy and one of the beans, and mix it all up in a pan. Add a taco seasoning packet from the store and heat for like five minutes. It's also awesome over rice or polenta. You can also throw some salsa in it.

Yummy, maybe I'll be making this for dinner tonight.
